The year, the world remember 200 years from Charles Robert Darwin` birth (1809 –1882) and 150 years from his book “On the origin of the species by means of natural selection, or the preservation of favoured races in the struggle for live” (1859). This book is published in a prolific period from the contemporary Naturalist knowledge. Three years before (1856), fossil hominids remains are found in the Neander Valley, near Düsseldorf in Germany, and six years after (1865), Gregor Mendel (1822 – 1884) published “Investigations in some hybrids in the plants”, postulating the existence of factors, which regulate the biologic heredity. The Darwin theory “evolution by natural selection” is self-transform in a logical rationalism bastion and marks the first scientific solid milestone opposite to the supremacy “the live was created” in force.
In the XX century, the Darwin – Mendel sequence was continued by Thomas Hunt Morgan, He published his work in “The mechanisms of the Mendelian inheritance “(1915) extending the work of Mendel with an inheritance chromosomic theory, that explains the genetic recombination. He received the Nobel Prize 1933 in physiology or medicine. Later on, James Watson and Francis Crick published in Nature 171, 737-738 (1953), “The desoxiribo nucleic acid structure” (DNA), presenting the physic evidence of the Darwin, Mendel and Morgan Theories. They accepted the Nobel Prize in 1962, one year after that Konrad Lorenz published “The evolution and behavior modification” (1961) based in all precedent theories and projected to the social behavior models or Sociobiology. Konrad Lorenz, Nikolaas Tinbergen and Karl von Frisch received the Nobel Prize in 1973.
It is not necessary to have more evidence, to know we are right; the natural selection theory and other scientific successive contributions, made us see clearly to the nature in so many expression forms. What we have done in human reproduction is thanks to the Darwin naturalist vision.
With these security I think that the beliefs in general, and particularly in human reproduction, they must not be eliminated from our intellectual load; not voluntarily, not for oblivion. It is impossible to say, that the believes not exist, and to deny the high prestige of the big epochs. The science and technology are far away from the people, and the beliefs are part of daily life.
Fantastic, vain and incoherent, nobody can stop knowing the beauty of their iconography and conceptions; and all the human effort was necessary to impose it, and later on to try to eradicate it.
Be patience, only 150 years have gone since Darwin said: “other possibility exists!”
